Truck won't start! 1999 5.2L
All of a sudden my 1999 5.2L Ram van won't start. I get 12V to the coil, spark from the coil and to the plugs. Rotor is spinning fine. I switched the ASD relay with the A/C one. I can hear the fuel pump cycle for 2 secs when i turn the key on and the CEL comes on for 2 seconds then turns off.
Unhooked the fuel line at the rail and gas sprayed out at me, so it looks like I have fuel pressure. I was gonna spray some ether in the throttle while cranking but the can went empty. I'll grab some tomorrow and try again. Also pulled the Crank angle sensor and it looks as clean as it did when I put it in there a couple of months ago. The only things I can think of are the Cam Angle Sensor and the Computer. Anything else I should check? |
Its the 5 volt wire.....Its all ways the 5 volt wire. Check it out.

Yeah, i was all ready to check the coil with my tongue! Come on, really though.

Is the engine not turning at all?
Turning but not starting? Turning very slowly? |
I have seen a number of threds/comments since I have been on this forum about coil issues. You may want to see if you are gettin fore to the plugs. Idk if that would throw a code or not.

Turns over fine, just won't start. I am getting plenty of spark from the coil and out to the plugs.
|
If you are getting spark, your cam sensor is fine, the ASD relay does not "arm" until it sees that cam spinning.
Is the spark weak (yellow)? |
I would try starting fluid.

are you getting injector pulse? A noid light is the preferred tool here, but, a test light will work in a pinch. Just need to test one injector. Unplug it, hook the test light across the contacts, and crank the engine, if the test light doesn't blink, prolly cam sensor failed. (but, that should set a code..... one would think....)
Edit: If you are getting spark, the crank sensor is ok. Cam sensor controls when the injectors fire. |
