Default How much for ball joint replacement?

I'm a grad student moved out of my house into an apartment where they won't allow me to work on my truck. All four ball joints need replacing on my truck. I got a quote for $535 including parts, labor, and alignment. Does this sound right? I thought it was a pretty good price, but I wanted to check with you guys first. Thanks.

Actually, that doesn't sound all that bad.... considering the number of labor hours in just doing ball joints...... And as it includes the alignment..... jump on it.

+1. Alignment is normally $70 alone here. Good ball joints are not inexpensive, and your situation preventing you from working on it there leaves few options - except finding a friend that will let you do it at their house on a weekeend - for binging a couple of six packs.....

You can save about $400 if you do it yourself. I've done all of mine twice, first time took me 3 days, second time took me literally three hours. But shops will charge you a pretty penny, that seems a fair price. I did the bushings at the same time, I recommend having those done as well.

I priced a set of ball joints for just over $200, I think from autozone too.

Fubba, do you live near a military post? If you do, most have places where they will work on your truck and the labor rates are LOW. I got rear brake shoes replaced on my old 1996 PLUS they turned the drums. It was only 65 bucks in Ft Sill Oklahoma in 2008 before tax. I think it was a Firestone that the army allowed to open up in there. They just have to settle on prices for military members.

They didn't check my ID. Maybe they won't check yours.
