Cool thanks guys..i might try to tackle this tomorrow or today now lol..if not then next week

Gotta borrow a socket (anybody know what size? that sucker is huge!) and find a torque wrench that goes up to 185ft./lbs. cause mine only goes to 150

And I also have to find out why the underside of my carpet on the driver and passenger side is soaked....the problems never end...

Wet carpet means leaking heater core. Unlike the seal on the gear box, it is a PITA! There are a couple of threads on that one. Check the FAQ/DIY section.

Just a heads up there is a dust seal a snap ring then the oil seal, the oil seal has the spring in it to seal up against the pitman arm, that's the one thats leaking if the pitman arm isn't completely smooth clean it up with some scotchbrite and then put it back together

Did you get around to doing that gearbox seal yet? I too am about to tackle this one. Looking into changing my pitman arm too to get better steering wheel response and not have so much slack.

Would be nice to know if you have a 2wd or 4wd? Pitman arm has nothing to do with slack on a 4x4.

Whats your take zman-
The wheels dont respond until about 1/8 turn of the steering wheel-the arm is moving with the box but the center link is not (immediately) responding with the movement of the pitman arm. I was certain the pitman arm/ linkage joint was the culprit...

Sorry for any thread hijacking--would still like to know how your seal replacement went charliesheen

My take is, that your gear box is shot, which is very common. However, you can try this for a short term fix. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ering-box.html

ugh. i hope not. Thanks for the heads up. Might pull of that pitman arm to check for wear, but a new gearbox would definitely fix that seal problem of mine :-)

Here goes another $200

Good luck, hope all works out well. Any chance you want to add the info about whether or not your truck is a 2 or 4wd?
