What else while I'm in there
I'm adding the Hughes air gap to eliminate my pleneum gasket , anyway I have te double roller timing chain and gear set but how much further is it past the taking of the intake ?? And how hard is it? Also some other ticks about the truck I hope get solved a have a clogged lifter verified by trusted mechanic, And fluctuating oil guage stays in safe zone but goes to about 20 at idle then back up in motion Any help fellas?

You are most of the way to the timing set when you have the intake off, just pull the water pump, and six more bolts, and the front cover comes off. (careful you don't tear the oil pan gasket.) You will need a puller for the balancer, NOT a jaw puller for yours. Something like a steering wheel puller.
Verify your what your oil pressure is doing with a mechanical gauge. See if your in-dash gauge is actually telling the truth. |
And since water pump is off, throw it away and replace with a new one...
I wonder how many with fluctuating oil pressure readings are the result of sensor? Now would be the time to change that rascal out as well and see if it clears the issue. |
Before you start this work have you done a comp test?

Maybe some HS 1.7's if ya got the money
