Default Need help trouble shooting my 00 Ram 1500 5.2 v8

Ok guys... I just purchased this vehicle used from a private party.. I have only had it for about 48 hours, and only driven it about 50 miles.. I have been getting the p0304 code for "misfire on #4". I have removed the #2 and #4 plugs and swapped them to see if that was the issue.. it was not the code came up again. The attached image is what the #4 plug looked like when originally removed. This morning I swapped the #2 and #4 injectors to see if that was what was causing the problem. It was not the problem, since it gave the same p0304 code again. I am at a loss for what my next steps should be. When checking the #4 plug again today I noticed some oil residue. I am going to compression test it to see if it has a bad valve, but I would rather not spend un necessary money, but also do not want to cause more damage. The one garage I went to today, recommended that I replace the motor, because if I replaced a valve and rings and seals the low end of the motor would still be old and could still need full replacement in the near future... I dont have another 5000, to put in to a vehicle just to make it run.
Thanks for any and all help.

See the plenum thread or search for other plenum threads as that one has been hijacked and turned into a 50 page goat trail and getting good info takes a lot of reading.

Is your PCV valve on that bank? If so, that might be all you need. Replace it with one from the dealership, not a parts store, and of course replace the oil fouled plug(s). Many a plenum gasket has been replaced when a five dollar PCV valve was the entire problem.

Take a close look at the injector connector. Do the wires look new? I've seen it happen where someone installs new wires and the wire routing causes this. They might all be going to the right cylinder but it's has to do with how you route the wires. There is a TSB out there on this.

And a suggestion (since you are new here...)

Keep the problem in the same thread you started. By beginning another thread, members will either not have the info regarding what has already been done or the conversation and it sometimes ticks off some memebrs making them possibly less likely to help (as some of us dislike thread hopping to find details..)

maybe a mod can combine??????
