98 5.9 gas, 4wd

Just rebuilt the motor, and reinstalled it. There were no fuel or electrical issues before the motor was removed. Nothing was broken when the we reinstalled it, and every connector plugged in. It turns over easy, and has great oil pressure.
I guess its a fuel issue? I dont know where to start.

there is one small ground wire coming off the pass. side firewall that isnt connected, i feel like that isnt the issue though

 

grounds can be a bigger issue than you think.

Did you check for Spark?

 

Not yet, it was getting dark so i called it a night.
Im really just looking for a list of thngs to check i guess

 

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump kick on?

 

We were jumpin it off my buddys jeep, so i wouldnt have anyway. I can check that tomorrow. If it worked fine before, why would it be a issue now?

 

You asked if it was a fuel issue, that's a great place to start testing the fuel system.

 

Fuel and spark...gotta have them. Connect the ground and check the little wire connector on bottom of coil. It can be easy to forget to hook back up and is not easily noticeable. (Don't ask....)

 

I have no idea where the ground goes. And all the connectors are used.

Anyway i can check the fuel pressure with out a gauge? I guess not

 

Need gauge to check pressure. Parts store may have a loaner. Small ground wire off firewall goes to back corner of pass side head. Also a number of grounds near battery - frame, fender. etc. If it is not grounded well, PCM may nt function correctly. Souble check the wiring to coil. Trust me, it is easy to knock loose and not easy to see. Check plug wires at plug end to see if you have spark. Also make sure distributor cap is securely mounted, and wire from coil is going into correct spot in disty cap!

 

Spray some carb cleaner or put some gas down the throttle body.
If it fires up, you got spark but no fuel. If not, then you have no spark (or no par and no fuel). First you have to chase down electrical issue.
