Default overdrive and TCC lockup

I have two ram trucks. The 99 with the 5.9 shifts into OD and locks up at the same time, around 42 mph. The 01 with the 5.2 feels like it shifts into OD about 42 mph, drops 200 to 300 rpms, but doesn't do the big drop in rpms until I hit 50 mph. Is that the TCC finally locking in at 50mph. It was explained to me that because the 5.2 has less low end torque it is programmed to lock in later because the 5.2 engine would lug more than the 5.9 at 42 mph. Which is right or are they both right?

You have it backwards. The first drop is TCC lockup, the second one is OD.

I run under 1500 RPM at 55, in O/D. I have 265's, and 3.55 gears.

Rpm is about 2000 when it shifts into overdrive at 50 mph, then drops to just under 1500. That's at a slow steady increase on the throttle.

I'll try to watch mine in the morning, but my shift points are signifacntly different from stock. But it may help me remamber where they used to be before I modified VB. I know I havve all of this written down along with pressure readings at three ports before I made changes....just don't know wheremy notes are after the move!

I don't think you are getting OD. Mine would run 3000+ at 70 without OD before.
