I just got this dodge less than 3 months ago, and up until recently ran just fine, then about 2 and half weeks ago, right after i did an oil change, it wont run right cold. it takes longer to get it going, and once its started it wants to stall and misfires slightly. but once it warms up it acts fine, all the power and everything. someone told me it mite be a clogged IAC, but i cant tell. help would be appreciated greatly.

 

Forgot to mention, theres no lights on the dash, and a scan tool picks up nothing, but havnt been able to check when its dead cold. once its above about 120 or so in temp its fine.

 

There's a DIY for cleaning the iac. It's quick and easy as long as you're careful and don't move the plunger. It's worth a try because its free

I don't think that's your problem though

Reset your PCM by disconnecting battery and letting all the electricity drain from the system.

Sometimes you get lucky and that fixes electrical gremlins

 

Ill give that a definite try. thanx. i did pull off the throttle body tho, and i should probly mention that my oil breather at one time puked up oil through the air filter. destroyed my filter and had to buy a new one, but the inside was black as coal and gunked in every nook and cranny possible. im still cleaning it, and when i get done ill give a shout.

 

if the air filter clogged up, the IAC port might have gotten it too. note the TINY little hole in the bottom of the well. clean the well and the pintle of the IAC, but don't push, pull, twist the IAC. maybe even just replace it. about $40-50 at local parts stores.

replace PVC valve and clear the hose to make sure its venting crankcase pressure.

Ok, i cleaned the throttlebody till it looked new. took off all electric parts and cleaned them as well. replaced the gasket, and bolted everything back on. runs much better, but still has a slight hard start when cold and a slight misfire cold as well. On one of these threads i read that these trucks dont like platinum plugs in the magnum, which mine has, and being they are old perhaps just finish with a tune up. and im a little new to these newer trucks, ive only ever had pre 80s dodges, wheres the pcv valve located on a 5.2? and thanx for the welcome

 

What year is your truck? PCV valve moved at some point. You should put all the info on your truck in your sig, and profile. Makes life easier.

New plugs certainly won't hurt....

 

Sorry, still gettin used to this whole thing. its a 1997 ram 1500 single cab 4x4 short bed with the 5.2 magnum and auto tans. odometer reads 157,000 and im told its actual.

 

Add the info to your sig and profile as stated. As far as the PCV goes, it's the one that has the hose connected directly to the side of the intake manifold. The other one is just an elbow that connects to the air cleaner housing.

 

PCV on 97 will be in passenger side valve cover.
