Transfer case front output shaft

Transfer case front output shaft
So I took the ol mud truck out last weekend to an event to try it out with the 38's ya I know took big for stock gears n axles blah blah but it did really well impressed the me til stuff started breaking.... Really my fault working to hard to get it out.... Anyways I snapped the front output shaft before the yoke. Still drives fine but my question is it worth it to try an rebuild what I have or spend the money on a new transfer case and if anyone can point me in the right direction as to where I can even get a new shaft that'd be sweet.

In general the TCase output shafts are the same. Sometimes the Input shafts (spline count) varies.
The NV-231 and 241 are really simple gearboxes to work on. I would just pick up and install a complete tcase from the junkyard versus the work to tear one apart and install one part into the original.
If you want to upgrade in strength a ford NP205 is a stout Tcase. Just not as much reduction in low range.
If money is not an issue the Atlas II by advanced adapters is the best of them all. Strong and several choices in low range reduction.

You would have to swap out the ford input shaft for a dodge one (they used the 205 also...just passenger drop). Low range on a 205 is 1:1.96 versus the 231/241 1:2.7. That is a very large difference in gearing. Plus with the 205 you will need new driveshafts.
Your transmission should have a 23 spline output shaft. Most dodge and jeeps with a 231/241 use a 23 spline input. The only exception I know of for sure is 4 cylinder jeeps had a 21 spline input.
The pull a parts around here want $75 for a Tcase. Plus the $25 core charge.
*ETA 2500/3500 Dodges with the NV4500 5 speed transmission have a 29 spline output.

Ya that's a huge jump in gearing for sure, thanks for the info maybe once I start putting a little bit of money into ill consider just buying an atlas but for now i got to get it going for sept 15 a junker will do just fine. Will one off an auto trans work? Or will I have to change fluid and such

This link will explain what I am talking about. On longer wheel based rigs these things work great.

Thanks wild man that's some great info, will definately look into getting one of those. Do you know if a nv4500 will bolt right up or am I goin to have to just suck it up and throw a 360 in it too, just FYI its a reg cab short box too, not ever going to be driven down the road again. I know a guy with an extra set of axles for a 3/4 ton so they might go in over the winter
