I just got a 98 1500 5.2 Automatic 2WD Ext Cab, sticker under hood say's:

DMD 3.5 Axle ratio
DRB Rear Axle Chrysler 9.25

Do i have Limited Slip Dif (LSD) that needs additive and 4.5 pints of oil OR Open that doesn't need additive and ? pints.

My Pics seem to say otherwise ?? or do they

Thanks for help.

Looks open to me based upon the pictures. Perhaps, someone switched out the guts of the diff or the entire rear axle.

and the cross pin from top to bottom
and all the open space between (no clutches or springs).

Well I don't think its a open diff, the lsd clutch pack is behind the side gears and that is not clear in the pix he has posted.

I would say to floor it on a dirt road, but if it is LSD, that's a great way to trash it if you don't have additive.

Then again, when in doubt, just add the additive. Still cheaper than a rear end rebuild if you screw up.

Doesn't mean anything. My BMW left two marks on concrete, but it has a open diff.

Easiest way to check is to lift the rear up and spin one tire by hand. If the other tire spins the same direction it's "posi", if it spins opposite, it's open.

I had one over in the barn ready to ship so I opened it up to take some picks for the Op.

Op here are some picks you can use for reference.

I wouldn't know, as I don't have an open diff in my Ram. And the 76 makes too much damn power to only spin one wheel.
