Alright so I have 1996 dodge ram 1500 5.2l and I have a problem I can't seem to find. The truck starts fine and idles fine but when I leave me house it bogs down and almost or does die at every light or stop I come to. Note this only happens when Its not at operating temperature. The cel is on for a bad 02 sensor but that's all. I've tried cleaning the throttle body and cleaning the IAC( not replaced just cleaned) can anyone help let me know if you need more info

 

Well if the CEL is on for a bad O2 sensor, I would start by replacing that. And there is a chance the sensor is shot because of the plenum if it hasn't been dealt with, read the sticky for it.

Alright thanks guys I replaced the post cat 02 sensor with the non fouler type trick but the cell is still on. So I'm guessing its the front one. I alsp herd you don't need the back 02 sensors. And do you think 02 sensors could cause it to bog down and die?

 

What code are you getting?

O2 sensor has a significant effect on fuel/air ratio. If the sensor is lying, it can cause some interesting driveability problems. But, only once the engine is up to 108 degrees. (where it will actually go in to closed loop.)

 

I can't remember I'm in school right now so after 5 I can let y'all know. Nd it sounds right because it will keep doing it until the temp gauges gets close to 200. I tried unplugging the pre cat 02 sensor (yes unplug the negative cable) and trying driving around with it off but no difference.

 

Then its not the O2. Probably need to do a really thorough clean job on the throttle body. I think there is a DIY in the FAQ section. (albeit, on a van....)

 

So its not an o2 and I cleaned the throttle body before. People were saying it could be the IAC. I tries cleaning it out but nothing. Maybe needs to still be replaced. Or the tps. Also I don't know if this info helps but I have a throttle body spacer.

 

Throttle body spacer is a waste on these trucks. Doesn't do a damn thing. Makes a nice paperweight though.

if you have an analog meter (with the needle, not the digital display) You can test the TPS easy enough. If that checks out OK, probably is time for a new IAC. They don't last forever.

 

Alright Ima try that. Should I leave the throttle body spacer on or take it off
