Whining-electric noise on acceleration?

It is the same exact noise you get while trying to accelerate if your power-steering is almost empty (which has happened to me a few times back in the day). My power steering is topped off and fine, but now something else is causing this same noise. My water pump has been leaking for a few weeks, so I've been topping off the radiator every day. I'm changing the water pump next week. Could this be what it is? This noise just started a few days ago. The noise did not start 3 weeks ago when the pump started leaking, but something's making me think the water pump is getting worse, and contributing to this wining noise on acceleration.

Any advice?

Thanks

It's also very similar to the noise you get when turning your wheel all the way in either direction....if that helps anyone.

If it stops when you replace the water pump, then thats what it was. You can open the hood and rev the engine to try and pinpoint the sound.

Just a thought but if you replaced the belt recently, have it measured. I ran into this years ago when the pimple-faced maroon behind the desk gave me the wrong belt and it whined cause it was too small. Finally figured out the problem and got a genuine Gates.
