It's considered maintenance at 60K intervals I believe. Done right, it won't hurt anything, and you are going to be in there anyway. (one of them the adjuster is in the pan, the other is external.)

I have done 2 of them with no problems. If you are dropping the pan IMO it is the right thing to do. I believe the FSM says to every 60K or so. It's not rocket science, just a nut on a bolt. You will need an in/lb torque wrench.

Keep it shifting strong and adjust both front and rear. As they wear slowly it is difficult to tell when they are getting out of adjustment. You don't want your front band anchor to fall out due to slop. Inspect for remaining band material.

I have a thread with some info on it here.

Thanks I've hear that if it's done it would not work out to good the clutch pack may overheat
Buy tightening them if it was not done at the normal mileage

You are welcome. The help in this forum will save you cash AND develop your skills. I knew the internet had to be good for something other than stupid cat pictures. http://www.roflcat.com/you-can-t-fix-stupid

Anyone have a picture showing where the adjustments are made for the front band? I climbed under my truck last night and spent 10 minutes looking all over the transmission for the parts shown in the service manual. My build sheet shows a 47RE, but I can see anything close to the diagram and description...

Look at 1:09 1:10 in this video and you can see it on the left sticking out of the side of the case.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nz_ICxyMW8#t=21

The adjustment is all the way in because front band was shot. Its on the drivers side above and behind, a little, where the shift linkage hooks up.
