weird noise coming from accessory off accessory belt
 

Hey all, just another problem. I got a noise coming from something on the belt that kind of sounds like an electric generator. It just started it when it got warm out. Replaced idler pulley and tensioner pulley. Tensioner seems good yet, no play in it. Replaced belt, didn't really think that would fix it but it needed it anyway. Sprayed the spring on the tensioner with wd40 thinking maybe it was making the noise, and sprayed a little silicon lube on the belt. It only makes the noise at idle, even with 50rpm increase it goes away. I know it's coming from something off the belt, I took the belt off and ran it a little and it didn't make the noise. Thanks guys

Spin all the remaining pulleys by hand. See if anything feels abnormal.

That's true... I'm not sure why couldn't think of that myself haha. Noise doesn't change when I turn the a/c on either so it's not the a/c clutch.I'll give that a shot after class, but it's a weird noise, I've never heard it before

Sometimes a noise can be found with a long screwdriver or a stethoscope. With screwdriver, touch each part, without getting caught in fan, and put your ear up to the other end. Parts houses sell mechanics stethoscopes, work great for all sorts of noises...diffs, bearings, accessories, fuel injector clicking etc.

That's a good idea too, harbor freight has them for $3 haha

So I went out and Tom the belt off and spun everything, it all spun without making a sound, it sounds like the sound is either coming from the power steering pump or the ac compressor but I really can't tell

Hollow pipe will help localize where the sound is coming from.

AC clutch bearings make a racket and are easy to replace. Just 1 bolt and it will slide out.

Take belt off and spin it by hand, should be smooth and quiet.

I'll give that a shot, it seems like a pain to replace though
