plenum repair & hughes pan finally underway

got everything labeled & my i.m. off today, only broke 1 bolt so it went well i suppose :-) lol (p.b. blasted all bolts for a few days & used a impact wrench on med. setting) http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9c193069.jpg
http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/...psc23966e4.jpg
had 4 pretty decent gasket blowouts: http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/...ps87cd2980.jpg and oil pooling everywhere on the inside. found a shop to hotdip it later this wk ($55 ready to install so i cant complain) >>had a couple questions, i had a really hard time getting out a sensor by therm. housing but need a new one now :-) http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/...ps25374bbe.jpg what is it?? lol & should i clean out threads with tap & die before reassembly?

The sensor you need is the coolant temp sensor. Let us know how everything turns out.

Figured u might but replace the thermostat and timing chain if needed since your there.

HeyYou 04-23-2014 12:26 PM

Yeah, if your truck is over/near 100K miles, do the timing chain and gears as well.

baymaven11 04-23-2014 04:52 PM

i just put in new cloyes double roller timing chain & new gates pump (end of my last thread) before i tore into i.m. :-D (wanted to get it all done @ once) i already got a new therm. housing ready & had hughes send a thermostat and new o2 sensors when i ordered the plenum kit. think iv lucked out so far :icon_chickendance: lol

you used an impact gun on the intake bolts, why? thats asking for trouble!

theyre only torqued to 12 ft lbs, no need for anything other than a 3/8ths ratchet, and a 13mm socket.

baymaven11 04-23-2014 05:52 PM

lil impact wrench (light torque) & they were the tools i had handy @ the time ;-) -id say with only 1 bolt head twisting off i cant complain lol... especially after some of the broken i.m. bolts iv seen happen by hand :icon_really:

HeyYou 04-23-2014 06:12 PM

Yeah, if they are gonna break, it doesn't matter which tool you use to break them. :)
