Changing Timing Chain - Gear Stuck on Crankshaft
I'm changing out my very work out timing chain today. I'm down to it, and the gear won't come off the crankshaft. Any ideas?

Carefully pry it off with a big screwdriver or pry bar.

Either that, or a two jaw gear puller. Watch the threads in the crank though. Don't bung them up.
Usually, they just slip right off..... never had one stick. |
If you go with a 3 jaw puller, thread the bolt part of the way back into the crankshaft. That'll give you something solid to put the puller post on and not mess up your threads.

Thanks! I did just that. I put the bolt back in, used a 3 jaw puller (very handy tool!) and pulled it off. With the bolt it, I didn't damage any threads.
