changing my solenoids and other items due to a hesitation between first and second gear shifting when over normal throttle and found this in my trans pan along with a lot of fine metal shavings on the magnet... what is this and what do i do???? (Doesn't look like it broke off anything)

thanks

Back off the adjuster enough so you can reinstert things. Should be a strut in there somewhere as well.

Start saving for a rebuild.

does the valve body have to come down to fix this? I also read somewhere that i have to remove something off the exterior of the trans body before dropping the valve body or it will not go back up?

If you have metal shavings time to start thinking about a rebuild. Shavings is a sure sign it will go out on you in the near future. Sorry man.

Cant help you on dropping the valve body, not experienced enough with transmissions to know, hopefully someone will have the answer.

Shouldn't have to drop the valve body.
