Kegger bypass hose fitting...R&R help

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I have been trying to figure out how to remove my leaking bypass fitting. I also need to know where to get a new one.

Thanks, this thing has me stumped.:icon_nut:

Its just a pipe fitting. Should come out with a pipe wrench.

Is it damaged? Leaking around the threads?

stewie01 05-17-2014 09:59 PM

Diggin' the blue! Kegger is pretty friggin clean too!

Snowfan 05-17-2014 10:32 PM

Thanks stewie and HeyYou, yes, it has weeped some out of the threads. I can't get a pipe wrench on it and was hoping there was either a tool or a trick to get a good enough grip on it to turn it. It's tight.

heat and the right size 6 point combo wrench.

Nope. Nothing for the wrench to grab, it's round.

I'll drill a hole through it tomorrow and stick a big screwdriver in it, that ought to work.

Spillage 05-18-2014 12:44 PM

I think the round fittings (without a hex) are slotted on the end... OK for insertion, but by the times they're up for removal, it doesn't help.

Maybe a large easyout will get it?

I don't have an easy out that large. Yes, installation when new is no problem. After time, corrosion and thousands of heat cycles, mine seems nearly impossible to get out. Just like the 2 broken front intake manifold bolts.

In a bit I'll go drill a hole through it...Indycar qualifying at Indy has me sidetracked.

Ham Bone 05-18-2014 01:30 PM

Screwdriver should get it.

Those are some damn sexy fuel rails

h3lzsn1p3r 05-18-2014 01:35 PM

good name brand vice grips and a little heat from a propane torch

Thanks Ham Bone, I wanted something that would match my wires.

h3lz...I've been using Vice Grips brand vice grips...they shred the fitting. Have been avoiding heat to not ugly up my shine.

Now that I have the screwdriver in, I can't hold the keg down.

Hate to put it in a vice and I sure don't want to install it this way. Might try wrapping it in a towel and sticking it in the vice.

Have you used anu penetrating oil?

There is plenty of room to work on it installed with all the stuff off the engine.

stewie01 05-18-2014 09:02 PM

Don't have someone around that can hold down the keg?

Don't know why I forgot about that. Will go soak it with PB. I agree, It SHOULD be easily fixable once installed.

No, but I will get it figured out. Will take it to a friend with a machine shop. He can fix about anything.

Funny how the simple stuff can be so troublesome.

Not sure what you mean by this, care to explain?

I put the keg in a vice padded thick with towels, got a big cheater pipe and CCCRRRAAACCCKKK, sounded like the manifold broke...alls well.

Thank you for the help, I appreciate it.

I got a little carried away with the spray paint today.

AtomicDog 05-19-2014 06:00 PM

Nice color choice on the fuel rails. I should have used that color instead of black. Really makes them stand out.

Snowfan 05-19-2014 06:29 PM

Thanks AtomicDog,

I was hoping for something Mopar blueish. Good enough. I think I'll stop painting now, its like a drug. Tensioner, idler pulley insides...

I saw my fabricator today and should have plates and a pic for you Friday.

HeyYou 05-19-2014 06:30 PM

Face it, you will never stop. :) You will always find some other little detail to paint. (Yeah, this is the voice of experience too.....)

Lookin' really good.

Snowfan 05-19-2014 06:59 PM

Thanks HeyYou. I put new used heads on it and degreased a little....then some more...then

My name is Snowfan and I'm a sprayaholic.

I am sure there is a twelve step program for that......

The part # for the fitting is 53020185. Expensive at 22 bucks.

I found a few in my garage on old water pumps.
