Rearend help

Hey yall. So my rear ends about to take a crap again. It's already been rebuilt 2 times only 20k on this rebuild so needless to say I just wanna put a whole different rear axle in it. 98 4x4 ram 2500 Dana 60s front and rear. I found locally a Dana 60 out of an 06 chevy express van with my same 4.10 gear ratio, I know it's disc brakes but other than that how hard would it be to make this one work. He only wants 300 for it but if it's gonna take a ton of work it's not worth it. I don't know a whole lot about how different they'd be so any help would be appreciated

Needs to have the rear wheel speed sensor on it. Needs to be the correct dimensions. Anything else can be fixed with a welder. :)

How do you keep blowing up rear-ends?

HeyYou, is there any concern with the rear ABS setup when swapping from drum to a disc brake rear? My truck has rear ABS and I just picked up a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Dana 60 rear with disc brakes that I'm thinking of swapping into my truck.

I *think* at some point, the tone ring changed....... so pulses per mile changed...... but I am not 100% sure on that...... aside from that, should matter over much. (but, would bear some looking into.) We had another member that did this swap.... think there is a thread on it around here somewhere..... might try looking that one up.

The rear I picked up has bad pinion bearings in it at a minimum. I suspect the carrier may be hurt in it, too. I'll likely have to swap my PowerLoc unit with tone ring from my existing rear over to the disc brake rear. Was also planning to swap over to 4.10 ring and pinion too.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll check for the swap thread.

Swapping stuff over may solve all your problems. :)

Okay I'm about to order this kit to rebuild my current rear I just need to help make sure this is correct. This says spline count is 29 but I thought I had a 30. It's the 8800 lb truck lsd if that matters. Someone please help me out and let me know is this the right one http://m.ebay.com/itm/271442962634?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true

HeyYou 10-06-2014 08:30 AM

Pinion spline count is 29, which I think is correct. You may be thinking axle spline count. (which in this case, doesn't matter.)

You shouldn't be blowing through Dana 60s like that? They are actually pretty tough.....

AtomicDog 10-06-2014 09:40 AM

What is likely killing them is a lack of lube due to a leak either from a seal (pinion or hub) or the differential gasket.
