97 won't stay running
I have a 97 Ram 1500 with a 5.9. A few months ago it started acting up. When I start it in the morning it will run for 10-15 minutes and then it shuts off (doesn't ALWAYS shut down). When it first started doing this you could start it back up about a minute later. Now it's taking 5 - not at all.
A couple times now it has just decided to not even start. So yesterday I replaced the oil pressure sensor. Then the cap and rotor--both were badly burnt out. And I replaced the ignition coil. Truck still would crank but not start. This morning it fired right up And ran for 10 minutes and shut down. 5 minutes later it started again. What do I do now! |
First check for DTC's and pending DTC's, and if there are none test fuel pressure. Beyond that, it's troubleshooting time -- time to figure out if it's spark, fuel, or both going away.

I did the key dance and nothing comes up. Since it did start I'm going to head to O'Reillys and have them check it out tho.

Had this problem on my 99, I replaced the crank sensor and still did the same thing....ended up being a bad Temperature Sensor
