Tranny won't go in drive
 

I have an 01 Dodge Ram 1500 and the tranny won't move and whines in drive but I can put it in 1st and it goes fine I just have to manualy shift it anyone know what this problem is

Unplug the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans, about halfway back. The trans will not have ANY automatic function, so, take it for a short drive, and shift it manually. If all the gears work, its just an electronic problem.
