HeyYou 09-10-2015 03:01 PM

Redid the timing? As in, re-routing plug wires? That's the ONLY thing they can do with timing...... Turning the distributor changes injector timing, and does nothing at all to ignition timing....... May wanna clarify just exactly what it is they think they did.

By all means, if you MUST replace something, replace it with something better. :) Magnaflow makes great high-flow cats for our trucks. You can find the at various price points all over the web.

Should figure out just WHY it plugged up though. Start with reading the Plenum sticky at the top of this forum.

My understanding is they did a relearn on the computer for the timing issue. I will look into the the Magnaflow systems today and check out the Plenum sticky as well. Thanks again HeyYou. Also, I'll let you know what exactly they did in regard to the timing when I pick up the truck.

HeyYou 09-10-2015 04:08 PM

relearn consists of disconnecting the battery for five minutes........ I would hope they aren't charging you a whole lot......

Chuco 09-10-2015 04:35 PM

I had done that before but it didn't do anything. My understanding is that the truck had to be hooked up to a DRB III and be adjusted through that. I'm going to go pick it up now and I'll give you an update as soon as I get back.

Chuco 09-10-2015 05:19 PM

So now that I have the truck, it is starting right up, way better than before, and the CE light is gone. As for what they did, they hooked it up to the DRB III scan tool and used it's reading to adjust the timing properly. Also, he said that once he disconnected the CC, the truck ran fine and had it's power back. I will disconnect it tonight and see how much performance I gain and let you know about that.

Wonder if he was referring to fuel sync.......

Chuco 09-10-2015 07:53 PM

That's what I told him I needed. I said I need a fuel sync also known as timing done on my truck. I just backed out the screws from the exhaust and the manifold and I can get past 3000 RPM now but the truck doesn't seem to have a lot of power still. Any other ideas?

Chuco 09-10-2015 09:26 PM

I mean the bolts from the headers, not the manifold.

Chuco 09-10-2015 10:00 PM

What do you think about straight pipe? I think I might just cut the CC out and straight pipe it myself this weekend.

HeyYou 09-11-2015 09:26 AM

It sounds like the cat is probably plugged up. Putting a pipe in there in place of it will tell the tale.
