Just bought

Hey guys in just recently bought me a 95 dodge ram 1500, 5.9mag, in had two questions what's the best set of mufflers for a mean growl, the louder the better, 2cd I'm installing a 2in level kit do you think I could fit 285s?

HeyYou 01-26-2016 01:20 PM

Check out youtube for various videos of exhaust. That will give you an idea of what it will sound like.

285's may be tight with only two inches, but, should be doable.

Welcome to DF! :D

Welcome! Catch up on the maintenance before spending on mods.

Will do thanks for the welcome committee, lol, but the person I'm buying from keep it up pretty decent consider the fact he was 79 years old truck drivers never die, it needs some body works first buy I'm already making that list for the mods

never trust the older owner......when I bought mine the guy said he kept up on everything with it, it still had the original plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it, the radiator was leaking, and the trans went out less than 2 months later, transfer case chain was stretched and forks were bad, and the exhaust was messed up. Like the others said, do your maintenance lol

Is your truck a 4x4? Im running 285s on stock 16" wheels. Its a 4x4 and has the factory lift. no problems.

BigGreenRam 01-27-2016 08:25 PM

285 will work without the lift but to echo what the guys said PM the truck put your money where it needs it most before the fun parts

Update :
Well there was a oil leak into the intake manifold, and she was pulling hard to the right, thought it might have been tie rod, but it was the top and lower ball joint ,the thermostat was awful, ...but other than that all good

jkeaton 02-08-2016 12:17 PM

So did you fix the plenum?

Moparite 02-09-2016 10:01 AM

Plenum fix...

As noted by all the above. Plenum and might as well tear it all the way down to the timing chain and replace up from there (water pump, all gaskets, plugs, wires, caps, PCV). I also did oil pump and pick up tube with new gasket there as well. Probably want to pick up some 02 sensors as well.

All that is only a few hundred bucks in parts and then you have a good baseline of maintenance for the future.

For muffler my recommendation is Thursh Turbo. Cheap and sounds great.

dapepper9 02-09-2016 02:27 PM

Updated mopar or felpro gasket and shave the pan/keg bolts 1/8". Skip the aluminum pan the pan isn't the problem. Save your money

Wow that 79 year old man beat the carp out of the truck

hometheaterman 02-26-2016 09:43 PM

The plenum gasket being blown is what was causing the oil to leak into the intake manifold. That's what they are referring to. It's the lower intake manifold gasket and a very common problem on these trucks.

Thats what I thought but Ijust nver heard it called that way before, al that's seems an issue is the tcc solenoid, or the oxygen sensors, ...can't tell it may be on the sensor only because the cat is gutted clean, but I think it may be the transmission, I'll let it idle until normal oper. Temp and she will.lurch forward when the Chek light comes on
