Differential swap 4x4
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4 x4 sport with the 5.9 engine and I am trying to do a front axle assembly swap because my front tire came off of my truck and it went down on the lower ball joint which bent that lower ball joint fork. I ran into a guy online who has the 01 ram 1500 with the 318 engine which is the 5 2 and that front axle assembly if I am reading it correctly has the 3.54 gear ratio and my front axle assembly has the 4:10 gear ratio are they compatible as far as just doing a straight swap and I mean as taking that one off of that truck and just bolting it back up to my truck...???? I am new to this forum so I'm hoping I can get some resolution out of this soon I'm trying to keep it going because it belong to a friend of mine that had passed away and I am trying to keep everything together just wondering if those will interchange with each other.. Thanks

The gear ratios will have to match - exactly.
I'll move your post into the correct forum. |

yes, everything should bolt on.
You can reuse your gears and install them in you "new" differential |
I have another question. will the transfer case and transmission work out of that 01 Dodge Ram 4x4 which is not a sport addition like mine. is it has the 318 in the one that I am taking the transfer case and transmission out of?

Yep. Everything from that truck will transplant directly into yours. The Sport package was an appearance package only. Body color grill/bumpers, and the bumpers themselves were different. That and some stickers on the bed, was it. Well, I think fog lights were also in there..... Oh, and quad headlamps instead of dual.....

I really appreciate everybody's help and information I have to say it really is a blessing to actually speak with someone that knows what they are talking about

So is it really that difficult to change gears from one axle to another? Pulling 3:54 gears out and putting 4:10 back in. The reason why I'm doing this is because my front tire came off while I was driving thankfully I wasn't moving that fast more or less I was turning around and went to take off in my passenger tire wheel bearing hub assembly came apart and my tire broke off more less I was turning around and went to take off and my passenger tire wheel bearing hub assembly came apart and my tire broke off a lot of parts and folded up underneath, my truck came down on the lower ball joint and bent that ball joint bracket now it pushes up my upper ball joint a quarter of an inch my question is can it be straightened out by a frame shop or do I need to get another axel has I am trying to do now?

There is a whole science combined with mystical arts to doing gears.

That I don't doubt😀 but how costly would it be
