Default UPDATE: BAD FRONT END SHAKE!!!

HEY GUY GOT A BAD PROBLEM HERE. WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IF I HIT A BUMB DOIN ABOUT 50MPH OR FASTER THE FRONT END SHAKES SO BAD I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO LIKE 25 AND THEN GO AGAIN. I ITS A 2WD. IT FEELS LIKE THE WHEELS ARE FALLING OFF. I REPLACED ALL THE TIEROD ENDS ON BOTH SIDES OUTER AND INNER. I CHANGED THE PITMAN ARM AND BALL JOINT AND THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT. I ALSO ROTATED THE TIRES. PLEASE HELP. IM SO FRUSTRATED I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE TRUCK WAS IN A WRECK LAST YEAR AND THE GEARBOX LEAKS FLUID. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

you have just experienced the death wobble... take it to a shop, have them check for any loose front end parts. once it's all tight, then go get an alignment and add in as much caster as you can. that should fix it.

THE TRUCK IS ALIGNED. I'VE REPLACED EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE LOOSE. IT JUST GOT BACK FROM THE MECHANIC, HE SEEMS TO THINK THE PLAY IN THE GEARBOX IS CAUSING IT. BUT IT GOT WRECKED A YEAR AGO AND IT JUST STARTED DOING THIS.IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN CHECK FOR? THANKS STEVE.

if the truck was aligned to spec, then you need to get it done again and have the max caster put in. I had the DW before, did nothing to the front end other than add caster to the alignment and the problem is solved. now i'm running a bigger tire and STILL have not had a problem. gear box being loose will not cause this problem.

max caster will solve your problem, this is a known issue with the 4x4's...

He has a 2wd though. And I still don't think maxing the caster will provide optimum handling on the road. But hey, whatever works for ya I guess.

thats funny. that is the one thing i didnt replace on the center link. i just replaced the shocks today but it just rides like a cadillac now but still shakes. i've changed everything but the idler arm b/c the ball joint seems fine and doesnt give. but there is play when you move the wheels side to side. the play seems to be in the gear box. the passengertire seems to have positive camber. a lil too much would this cause it or is it for sure the idler arm. thanks again guys.

I would look at the idler arm and the center link. It sounds as though what you are experienceing is bump steer.

Bump steer.

Definition: The tendency of a vehicle to suddenly veer or swerve to one side when hitting a bump or dip in the road. The condition is caused by uneven toe changes that occur as a result of the steering linkage or rack not being parallel with the road surface. This causes the wheels to change toe unevenly as the suspension undergoes jounce and rebound.

THIS WOULD BE PRETTY SEVERE BUMP STEER. IVE CHANGED EVERY BALLJOINT ON THE ENTIRE CENTER LINK EXCEPT THE IDLER ARM. COULD THIS REALLY BE IT? NOT THE PLAY IN THE GEARBOX? THANKS AGAIN GUYS.
