2000 ram 2500 starts but won't move in any gear

As the title states I've got a 2000 ram 2500 5.9 gas. Rebuilt the trans last year and drove without issue other then the truck itself is a dog and I'll assume that's due to the factory reprogram on the pcm. It starts and runs drops into all the gears no issues I've checked to make sure the truck is pumping fluid which it does fluid is full but I get no codes for any sensors. Before it was rebuilt when I got it the lever for the band was in the bottom of the pan and wouldn't engage to shift out of first. The only thing that's not hooked up is the airbags while I wait for new dash top to put it back on the road and it has sat for almost a year not moving but started at least once a month.

It simply doesn't move (forward or reverse)?
Any weird noises?

timdirt 12-09-2016 07:45 PM

Yeah no forward or reverse I don't hear any noises

dbbd1 12-09-2016 09:23 PM

2 or 4 wheel drive?

And an automatic, I presume?

dbbd1 12-09-2016 09:27 PM

Try disconnecting the 8-pin electrical plug on the trans (if it's an auto). You will have ZERO automatic function in the trans, you will have to shift manually, just minus the clutch. See what happens then...

timdirt 12-09-2016 09:33 PM

4x4 yes automatic 46re. I unplugged the 8 pin and the othe connections and sprayed with electrical cleaner. But I'll try that I'm just trying to get away from having to drain and drop the pan. and I've checked it with transfer case in 4h 4l

Do a pressure test, it will tell you if the accumulator/servos are getting adequate pressure. Was the check valve removed from the trans line? They have been known to stick.

Check valve is still in it i know I need to take it out but I was in a rush and needed the truck back together at the time and had to buy a new line the quick fit ends break way to easy on the napa lines but I will try the pressure test today.

Oh. I assumed that you already had done the pressure test.

timdirt 12-10-2016 11:42 AM

I just unhooked a cooler line and started it and let it pump into a jug to check the pump cleaned the connections I haven't gone to much into checking and testing as the factory service manual is at my brothers

timdirt 12-14-2016 11:35 AM

Unhooked the 8 pin connector and it still does nothing but get a check engine light with p0753(shift solenoid a) and p1763. had to order a gauge to do the pressure test.

dbbd1 12-14-2016 11:53 AM

Bummer. Sounds like you have to drop the pan. You do not seem to be moving any fluid.

timdirt 12-14-2016 03:34 PM

Yeah figures with my luck I'd have to do that. Anything I'm gonna be looking for in there or is a pull the pan then valve-body take it apart and clean it where I'm at it was a fresh rebuild last year with maybe 500 miles on it.

dbbd1 12-14-2016 03:55 PM

IMHO, you could check solenoids and wiring/connectors to them but I think your issue is fluid. A clogged passage, stuck actuator...

Just checking, you are checking fluid level in "N" not park, right?

dbbd1 12-14-2016 03:56 PM

I just re-read...
Your transfer case didn't get kicked into neutral, did it?

Just sayin'...

timdirt 12-14-2016 04:58 PM

Yes I've checked in neutral. I've tried it with transfer case in every range and still doesnt move.

dbbd1 12-14-2016 06:38 PM

Sorry, but you understand, I had to ask...

Anyways, I'm curious...
Have you tried to jack up the rear and put it in gear? Wondering what it would do with no "load" on it.

timdirt 12-14-2016 07:46 PM

It's no worries. I did jack it up the day I tried to move it figure maybe the brakes were stuck even though they cut the line didn't make any difference. One thing I just noticed since it is dark out is reverse lights come on soon as I start the truck and stay on eve when I drop it into drive.

HeyYou 12-15-2016 09:30 AM

Check the shift linkage... make sure it is doing it's job. :)

timdirt 12-15-2016 07:31 PM

When i had the rear jacked up I climbed under and moved it by hand everything seemed to moved fine with no issues

HeyYou 12-15-2016 07:32 PM

Starting to look like time for a trans rebuild..... May want to just drop the pan, and see what you find.

timdirt 12-15-2016 08:02 PM

well I rebuilt it last year and put maybe 500 miles on it so I'm hoping it's something stupid just trying to check anything I can without having to drop the pan since it's cold out and I can't get it in the shop lol

Moparite 12-16-2016 07:01 AM

but I will try the pressure test today.

had to order a gauge to do the pressure test.
Did you test it yet?

timdirt 12-26-2016 05:35 PM

Finally was able to go out and pressure test it was only able to get the front servo checked before got wet out but it didn't read on the gauge at all. had a bit of a hand today and was able to get the reverse lights to go off my moving the linkange for the shifter by hand on the trans.

timdirt 01-26-2018 04:37 PM

Well I eventually got around to drop the pan and found pieces of a snap ring in the pan and left it sit since I didn’t feel like pulling the trans or spending the money on rebuilding it again

HeyYou 01-26-2018 06:55 PM

Where ya at, and what kind of shape is the body in?
