What upgrades would result in a daily/streetable 375-450HP 5.9 Magnum.
I've got an 01 1500 Sport 5.9 That I'd like to really get up and moving a good noticeable bit faster. What mods would I need to see these kind of numbers, so I can get a general idea of the price. Being streetable, I'm not looking to completely kill low end torque off, and make all my power at strip only RPM's, Show me that nice mid-range.

Also I know I'd need a beefy trans to even hold this amount of power, what would a trans overhaul to support this power level look like?

 

For the power, a blower of some sort would be just the ticket. Forced induction is an easy way to make power. Trouble is, it certainly isn't cheap..... and given the age of our trucks, most manufacturers don't support them any more. A custom turbo system, or, finding something on the used market might be your only choices.

For the trans, check out the Mega Viper. It'll take that kind of power without any complaints at all.

 

Could you really hit these number with just a turbo? Seems pretty cool since alot of modern trucks and cars use turbos to get their power from smaller displacement motors (cough cough 2017 Raptor). Id also like to replace the heads with Iron EQ at some point just because, and the cam as well.

Forced induction is going to be the easiest way to get that kind of power, and still have a useful truck. You will have to build the motor with boost in mind though. Forged internals, careful consideration of compression ratio, better heads will certainly be in order.... fuel management for boost, etc. I would recommend doing a LOT of reading on the subject before spending a single dollar on parts.

 

OH no worries, I wont be buying part for a long while, Im basically out of fun spending money and have some debts id like to pay off a bit first, just wanted to get an idea ahead of time so I can plan ahead, and not be late to the saving and research game when the time comes.

For the power you want to make a stroker kit would wake your 5.9 up just fine. It takes your 360 and makes it a 408ci engine. You should make between 375 to 450 hp out of it and loads of torque to boot.

i would just use it as a guideline. it was a magnum engine [same as yours], but it was written for someone needing a new engine for their pre 70's classic that didn't want injection and the wiring/computer mess with it. just substitute an airgap or kegger for the carb. everything else fits.

with modern vehicles [obd2] there are other things at play that you don't even notice that has a huge effect in the driving experience, torque management, shift points... a simple tune can change a vehicles behavior so dramatically that you may find you don't really need all the extra stuff to be happy with your rig. have you tried that yet? you'll need one after you build up your engine anyway.
