I was infact in park I thought they would be the same. To be honest this is the first automatic I have ever owned I have had manuals all the way up to this point.

Most manufacturers were intelligent enough to have the torque converter charge in park, which meant, you could actually check fluid level in park. Why dodge decided to be different in this area, is beyond me. No clue what they expected to gain there. Personally, I don't see any benefit to the decision.
