Default 46re no low gear or od

Have two 1996 ram 1500s 5.9 2wd took one out and had it rebuilt on bench . Took new trans and put it in the other truck. Now I start out in 2nd in D. And when selector is in 1st it's not going into low gear. Plz help. Already replaced governor sensor twice. No codes. Plugs clean.

Verify that the shift linkage is adjusted properly. It that is ok, have a chat with your rebuilder.

Welcome to DF!

Default Crap

I just stripped a bunch of wire harness and I have power. But should it not engage in low regardless?

If you put the lever all the way down, will it actually go into first gear?

No its definitey second gear when lever is down. There is some aluminum in pan. Thinking about dropping valve body aND putting a trans go in it. Replacing wire harness. My uncle is the brain hes done all this to his 98 4wd. Had two trans. Rebuilt by the same guy who just did mine. The builder is reputable. Has been bench building for 30 yrs

He thinks it's electrical. And I think he could probably rebuild that trans with a blind fold he's also ignorant to diagnosing it once it's in the vehicle. Taking valve body out will void my warranty. But I also think he's done his part and would be a waste of time taking it back to him. Do you agree I'm going in right Directon plus fixing some valves

Bench rebuild? And you put it back in?
IMHO, I'd start with linkage and adjustments first. Unplug the 8-pin connector to the trans, you only have manual control (you will have to do ALL of the shifting). Shift to 1, does it still start in 2?

But I bet it does start in 2nd unpluged. Trans and truck feel slow. Like it's fighting itself
