Fuel pump replacement

2 Attachment(s)
1998 2500 5.9L gas 4x4 35 gallon tank.....I have been attempting to replace my fuel pump recently. The first pump assembly ordered turned out to be the wrong part number. The boys at napa hooked me up with an OEM part e711m ump assembly for the second pump. Without hesitating, I dropped it in and then realized it has an extra line nipple on the top that my original does not. I can't return/replace it now. Question now is what line goes to this nipple and what part do I actually need to get the right fuel pump? Can I plug this nipple and use this pump? I need to get this Dodge back to the work force. Thanks for any input Attachment 28702

Attachment 28703

the new pump looked like this e711m with a plugged nipple Attachment 28704. However the rubber cap was not crimped and came off. Could I clamp off the nipple with the plug and a hose clamp?

So I filled the plug with RTV ( I'm sure this will lead to more problems) and clamped it off. How bad of an idea is this????https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...bb1e313b43.jpg

Probably a xtra vent line I'd think you'll be fine.

I think it's a port for an external pump to remove the fuel from the tank.

Why can't you return it? So Napa sold you a different part its their fault. Last summer, they sold me a harmonic balancer for a 5.2 since I was doing the t-chain, etc. and I installed it. Truck vibrated terribly. Figured I screwed up the chain/timing. Called around and found out that there is no replacement balancer for the 318! They sold me a 360 balancer. I put the old one on and returned the incorrect one for full refund. Added another day to the job. Their reply, "oh, sorry."

I had something like that happen to me at a dealership with a "special" $40 exhaust hanger. I looked the part number up myself, gave it to them and they ordered it in. I went to pick it up and it wasn't the right part. They said it had been discontinued but apparently the same part number had been given to a different hanger for different truck. They told me I couldn't return it because I gave them the number as opposed to them looking it up. I was standing there at the counter with an unopened hanger in a plastic bag and them telling me I owned it. I don't buy from them anymore. I don't think part stores would be as bad about this, but from then on, I always let them look the part up and remember who I buy from.

now what ??

so I am still not getting fuel to the rail yet...I have jumped the relay (87&30).....check the ASD relay, its good...put a multi-meter in the connector at the pump and have 12v+ when cranking but nothing for prime. Also, even with 12v i cannot hear the pump turn on. Out of spite i hooked the old pump up directly in the garage and shot fuel 2 feet across the shop. (AWESOME) I can run the engine with WD or starting fluid so its getting spark and cam sensor should be ok. What in the "H" can I do next??????

Verify you are getting power to the injectors. Should be 12 volts for three seconds after key on, or, while engine cranking.
