Transfer case

I have 2000 rt 4x4 durango. It has the manual. The shift can move with no force to it in any gear. It will not ingauge to and 4x4 mode. Can anyone help as to what could be wrong. Thank you

Check the linkage.

shrpshtr325 09-06-2017 06:43 AM

+1, sounds like the rubber bushings in the linkage disintegrated, they tend to do that when they get old, hopefully you didnt lose the linkage (uncommon, but possible)

Chevierd 09-06-2017 06:51 AM

The linkage is still there. If the rubber bushing are bad would I still be able to crawl under the truck and still be able to manually shift it to 4x4?

HeyYou 09-06-2017 10:04 AM

Have someone else move the lever, while you watch and see what the linkage is doing.

Chevierd 09-06-2017 10:07 AM

Ya I did that. It moves with the lever it just won't shift in to any of the gears

There should be clunking going on in the t-case when you move the lever. Is that happening? If you look at the tear down of the t-case in the FSM, you can see it's just one rotating part that shifts two forks (one hi/lo and the other 2/4). If the main exterior lever is moving to all the positions and yet it's still not shifting, it's kinda not possible to do that unless something is broken inside.

HeyYou 09-08-2017 09:30 AM

What code?

Chevierd 09-08-2017 05:08 PM

P0505
ifor air control motor circuit

HeyYou 09-08-2017 06:31 PM

Failed PCM, Bad IAC valve, bad wiring to the IAC, bad connection at the PCM..... May even be as simply as a dirty throttle body.

Chevierd 09-08-2017 09:55 PM

Do you know how much voltage is supposed to be at the connector for the IAC

HeyYou 09-08-2017 10:13 PM

12 volts on at least two of the pins.

Chevierd 09-13-2017 08:49 AM

Does any one know if I by a PCM if I can get from a junk yard or if I have to get if from somewhere where they marry it to you VIN

HeyYou 09-13-2017 10:14 AM

You can get one anywhere you want, however, it does need to be flashed to the correct VIN. Dealer, or any shop with a good scan tool can do it.
