Tire options with stock rim?
 

2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 has stock rims with tire size currently 245/75/R16. All four tire's are blown. Im looking to see what other sizes i can put on this rim that will fit width wise I'm not the best at all with the metric to imperial conversions at all. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

What size tire do you want to put on there? Most tire manufacturers will tell you the recommended rim size.

A 33' would be nice because i hear they will clear it. But what ever i can fit with out having to buy new rims

Go to something like discount tire's website, and have a look at their offerings. I think you can sort by size...... (33's will likely be 285's) See what ya like, and what you wallet doesn't object to strenuously to. :D

Right lol. Ive done a little research and used a few converters from metric to imperial but the problem that worries me is 245/75/r16 for width converts to like 9 1/2" and 285/75/r16 width converts to like 11 1/2" so im just trying to see what people have experience with putting on stock rims

I have a 98 2500, stock rims, with 285x75x16's. Seems to work pretty good.

Ok! Yeah it sounds like it would work but then i typed it in on the converter and the width increased by 2 inches so i was getting nervous lol

If you do any off-roading, you want your tires to be wider than the rim in any event. (protects the rim.) I don't recall just offhand what the max is though.....

Right oh yeah im familiar i just didnt want to drop a few hundred bucks and have them not work lol

I've had:
- Michelin 245s
- Cooper 265s
- Nitto 285s (largest)
- Cooper 285s (smallest)
- BFG 285s (thinnest)

I've also seen 295s, 305s, 315s, even 37's on stock 7" wheels. Every manufacturer is slightly different in size so you really don't know until they are mounted. Most shops will install 285s on 7" wheels, even though they should really be on 8" wheels. Some may balk at doing it for technical reasons. But remember, the bigger the tire, the less power and worse mileage you'll have. Plus the speedometer will be off slower.
