Front/Rear Gear Upgrade

Front/Rear Gear Upgrade
Ok so my pap is buying my axles once I get my 2500 axles from HeyYou. He tows heavily with his 1500 and since I planned on regearing the 2500 axles I was going to practice on the 1500 axles (have a spare 1500). He said if you regear them I'll buy both for $5600. I laughed and said "Pap that's way too much" he responded "It's only money kid they make it everyday." Then went on to say how the older carriers were easier to replace and I agree. On my 68 Charger you just unbolted the whole thing and put the new one in and then bam regeared. So my plan is True-Trak semi lockers front and rear and 4.88 or 5.11 for the gears. What do you guys think? This will be my first regear and I'm excited, this won't take place though for a couple months. But want to buy everything now

Good luck finding 4.88's, they are out there, but, rather rare. 5.12's simply aren't available.
What size tires does he want to run, and will he be on the freeway towing at all? If so, 4.56 is as far as I would go. I have 4.56 in my truck, with 33's, and max speed is about 55 when towing, otherwise, the engine is absolutely screaming......

Maybe you should find a set of 3/4 ton axles for him too.
Still, I think 4.56 with the 35's would be best. The axles really aren't designed for tires much larger than that, sitting under a full size truck. He would be going thru front end parts like nobodys business. Good possibility of things simply breaking at the worst possible moment as well.
