Speedo gets its clue from the rear wheel speed sensor on top of the rear diff.

Has the speedo ever worked since the axle swap??
the 94' 2500 might have had the speedo signal on the back of the T-case. So if you swapped axles and now your speedo inst working that is why. I believe this can affect trans shifting as well.
If this is the case, you need a newer axle with the speed sensor on the diff or you can buy this

Thanks jlake that’s pretty nifty deal there. I’m not sure about axle swap I didn’t do it and just got the truck a few months ago. Is there anything in the trans or tcase on an 01 ram 1500 that has anything to do with speedometer??? I’m going to check tonight but I don’t see any wiring near the rear axle other then for the lights

Sensor should be right on top of the pig. (where the ring and pinion gear reside) It reads off of a tone ring that is bolted between the ring gear, and the carrier. If it isn't there, that's gonna be a problem.

Get the correct sensor for your year truck. I think they all mount pretty much the same.

Depends on which one you look at. To me, it appears the only real difference is the orientation of the bracket that holds it in place, and the electrical connector. (and the newer versions isn't completely cylindrical, I suspect that is to make it easier to change.)

Go to your local parts store, take yours with you. (don't drive the truck like that......) Compare both years to the one you have..... length from the mounting point is going to be the biggest concern. (and diameter of where the o-ring sits.) You could try changing the connector on the harness side..... the sensor is just a signal generator after all..... Likely pick one up from the junkyard.
