Default 2001 3.92 rear fit in an 2002 3.92 rear?

i recently have been going through a horror show with my 02 dodge ram 1500 5.9l. after replacing transmission 20k ago i just had to replace motor. after that was done it was discovered my rear end was on its last leg. full of metal shavings. having a hard time finding a 3.92 rear for my truck. i have found one out of a 2001 but dont know if it will work. even though my truck is 3rd gen it was early in year so i believe its closer in parts to a 2nd gen but im not sure. any help is appreciated.

What rear differential does your truck currently have in it? Corporate 9.25?? If it does, it's the same rear as the second gens. May have to move spring perches/shock mounts..... but, aside from that, might be doable. 3.92 gears just weren't real common.

Whatever used rear you decide to put under your truck, please be sure to check the sealing areas for leaks, as leaks leading to low fluid are one of the most common causes of rear end failure. Check the pinion seal, axle seals and cover gasket to ensure they are in good shape and not leaking.

The Achilles heel for those rears with limited slip are the clips that the clutches ears fit into. The crack and grind themselves into the housing, then get loose and take teeth out of the ring/pinion or tone ring. Best thing you can do is find one with a good housing, then swap in the gears and aftermarket limited slip unit.

That happened to my ring gear. Been driving it like that and burning 37s and still going strong. Love these rear ends

Another iteration of Hemilonestar, demonstrating why he got banned in the first place.
