good water pumps?

Hey everyone. Changing my oil yesterday and found that i had a good amount of water on my harmonic balancer. Looking further up I found it on the bottom of the water pump. Looks like shes starting to weep right behind the pulley. When I did my plenum (back in 2011?) I replaced the water pump with a brand new, not reman'd, water pump from napa. I only got 40,000 miles out of it. Pretty disappointed in that but I know sometimes it happens.

Is there a better water pump out there I can buy? Ones to stay away from? Also I think I used Fel-pro gasket last time, any reason not to buy fel pro again?

Here's some pics for the heck of it.

I've had Mopar water pumps and I had the cheap ones from advance with the cheap gasket. Both lasted until I sold the truck. Is there a warranty on the pump? If so get another one. You could have got one that was just poorly built. Try to avoid ones built on a Monday or Friday as they are usually the ones that are of crappy quality.

I bought a Gates from Rock Auto

I been threw a few, So far a new Bosch water pump has lasted the longest. I'm on my second one because the first one was replaced under warranty. It didn't leak but the bearings where going (could move the fan side to side). So far the second one is lasting.

I’ll +1 on a Gates...
Ive only replaced my water pump once... I have more miles on the Gates than the factory water pump, and I’m around the 210k mark.

Pumps are pumps unless there's plastic parts (I'm looking at you Cummins 😡). I'm on my second Napa pump. First one replaced the stocker at 60k and was still fine when I swapped it at 200k. Now at 242k.

Don't know who you are looking at, but my trucks are virgins compared to yours :icon_lolsign:

Awesome thanks guys. I'll give gates a shot. I've had good luck with them in the past on my wifes subaru forester.

Agreed on the trucks being virgins, you've got damn near 100k on both my trucks!

I don't know what happened to the emoji but the winky face was not what I selected. Brand new Cummins 6.7 trucks are coming with plastic impellers and they are grenading very early on. There's a recall. But there is no supply. Lots of anger on cummins forums and rightfully so. But I digress. . .

Yeah, lets save a couple pennies per pump, and then spend a few hundred dollars each to replace them...... Brilliant strategy...... :D
