Radio not working

1995 Ram 2500 V10 with 132k miles purchased recently. The radio wasn't working, nothing, no sound or clock. After a few weeks it started coming on and off by itself, as well as the clock. Then it came on and worked for a couple days and now totally dead again. I started thinking it was possessed, but then again, I watch too much Supernatural ... lol.

Since the truck had been a farm vehicle and did have mice living in it, I had wondered if they chewed through some wires, so I took the radio out and the wiring, as far as I could see, seemed fine, not brittle nor cracked, all looked good. Checked the fuse and that looked good. Changed the fuse just to make sure and still nothing.

If this is the original radio, which would make it 24 years old, it could be bad. Is there a way to check the radio to see if it works? I don't want to buy an after marker replacement and find out it's a wiring issue someplace I couldn't get to, etc.

Grab the service manual for your truck from here. Check the wiring to verify that you get power in the rights spots. (one wire should always have power, and there is another one that should have power with ignition on.) If those check out, bad radio.

As mentioned look over the wiring as best you can. Then see if you are getting power to the plug even if the two isn't working and that will tell you if it's just the radio. You IDGIT (you might like that reference)

Okay, so after checking everything out, the culprit was the radio. Replaced it with an aftermarket unit that came with everything I needed. It was an easy install and everything is working as it should.

I tested the radio in my truck before I bought it.... just to make sure it worked.... Since then, I don't think I have ever turned it on again.

I get tired of listening to commercials, so, I listen to my truck instead. :D

The FM went out on my radio, everything else works fine. I assume it is a internal problem and repair would cost more than an aftermarket radio. I don't really miss the FM, as I have become a news and talk radio fan in my older years.
