Which gear ratio for 35" tires
Hello everyone . I am new to the forum, not sure if im postng in the right area or not.
My question is what are some of you guys running for gear ratio with your bigger tires? I recently did a 2" lift and have 35s on my 96 1500 4x4. Ive noticed an obvious powerloss and want the back to stock feel. From my research alot of guys are saying to go with 4.56s. I currently have 3.55s I plan on getting a smaller camper (under 25 feet) and i also like to haul atvs around on utility trailer . The truck just recently got the whole front end re done with an alignent , new steering box and a set of dual steering stabilizer shocks. Couple other extras are magnaflow exhaust, afe intake and a rebuilt 360 motor with mopar performance parts and comp cam with 50k on it Im looking to get a deep tranny pan and larger cooler. I really like these big tires but i want better gearing for when i have to actually tow. Whats everyone running ? Any advice? Cheers |

I would agree. 4.56 will be a good towing gear for you, and your transmission will be much happier about them. I currently run 4.56 gears with 33's, and that's just too much gear for those tires. When the time comes, I am upgrading to 35's, and I think that will be just about perfect.

I love the stance and clearance on these 35s , would be nice to have the best of both worlds when i wanna go off road or when it comes time to haul a camper. They are E rated tires so thats a relief. Now to save the 3 grand to install the gears.. |

3 grand to install gears???? Holy Smokes. That is STEEP. I can get it done around here for less than 2.... and that includes all the parts/labor.

I know a shop near me wants $1000 to do both if I buy the gears. 3 grand seems really high

Also keep in mind, that when you go from 3.55 to 4.56 you either need to replace the carrier or get thick gears, because on Dana 44 the carrier break is at 3.92 and up (numericaly). Rear axle (if Chrysler) has same carrier on all ratios.
