Lifter noise, high oil pressure
 

I just got done doing a 5.9L, 46re swap into a wrangler. I just got the wiring issues sorted out and was finally able to idle it for a long time. (I have still not driven the Jeep)
I am noticing a lifter tick from the right rear side. It starts out barely noticeable with a cold start but very noticeable with the engine at hot idle.

When I had the engine out, I replaced the rear main seal, new Melling high volume oil pump and new water pump.
My cold start oil pressure at idle is about 75 and hot idle is about 60. Measured with a mechanical gauge screwed into the oil sender port. Engine has 118k miles, with unknown service history.

At first I thought this was a sign of an engine in very good condition, but now I'm wondering if I may have a blocked oil passage which is causing the tick and the high pressure.
I have a mechanics stethoscope coming in the mail and I'll pull the cover to see if I can pinpoint the lifter.
Any thoughts are appreciated, also what do you think of that pressure?

May be a collapsed lifter, loose rocker arm, broken spring... etc. Need to have a look. I don't think it would be blocked oil passages, not with that kind of oil pressure. :D If it were, you would have more than one lifter ticking.

Correction on the above numbers: Cold start pressure is 72, hot idle is 43.

At 3000 rpm it goes to above 85. Does that mean anything?

I took the valve cover off and started the engine, all rockers are being oiled equally, no broken springs. Now I'm thinking it's more of a rotational noise, maybe from the flexplate?
I had removed only one main bearing and it looked really good, so now I'm at a loss in trying to pin the noise down. I'll check the torque converter bolts and wait for the scope to come in and give a listen.

Pretty normal. As the engine warms, pressure will go down. 43 at idle is actually quite good.

Once you have your scope in ear...... localize the noise, see what ya got. Don't neglect to listen to the injectors as well. They can get pretty loud. :D
