5.2 max rpm

5.2 max rpm
The red line on the tach starts at 5000 and goes to 6, which is strange to me in the old days redline was redline and anything over you over reved the engine. Usually about the same time the valves or points started floating and it would kind of flaten out. I know the electronics has changed a lot of that. But it sure feels like it has some punch left at 5 grand. I havn't found the Max rpm for the 5.2 to adjust it when I get the hypertech.

RE: 5.2 max rpm
Well on my 5.2 i have had it to the rev limiter. It starts to bounce off of it about 5100 or 5200 rpm. I don't know what the max is, but the rev limiter starts at 5100 or 5200. Mine does seem to have it right at 5000 rpm but it goes no further than that, and at 5000 is where I shift at. I wouldn't mind knowing were the perfect shift point is.

Here is a dyno chart from the Hypertech website. The power and torque numbers fall off after 4500 rpms. So, to me there is no point in revving it past the point of maximum power. The cam profile and induction system in these trucks are not designed to perform well at high rpms.

RE: 5.2 max rpm
Hey Redskin - try putting the trans shifter in "Neutral" and letting it warm up for 20 seconds or so before you drive away in the morning. the trans pump doesn't operate in "Park", so by putting it in neutral it circulates the fluid in the tranny and gets any bubbles, etc out. I was told by a dealer tech that these trannys need to be ran in neutral for a short time when cold starting. I have done it since, and have some buddies with Dodge trucks that were experiencing problems. After they did the "warm up" in neutral their problems with tranny slippage, etc on a cold start went away.
The Hypertech made a big difference in power across the rpm range on my truck.

I live on a slight hill and whenI take off it seems like it hardly moves before shifting into second. I wonder if it needs more gear or more cam or will the hypertech help this. your right they are a little flat on topend.

if you dont like where its shifting you can chainge it by moving the TV cable do a search of it if you wanna know more about it i dont know too much about ive just seen it here a cupple times. somone else might be able to give you more info too
oh also no programer will help shifting points because they arnt controled by the PCM superchips says they do but if you read the fine print is says not avalable on all modles

RE: 5.2 max rpm
i have a 5.2 5 speed.. and i've gotten my rpms close to 5,500 acouple of times (when im racing somebody and forget to watch the rpms ) but when im really running it hard i try to get it up into the red area especially from 2nd to 3rd because thats a really bad lag gear. i've noticed that the most pull is over 3,000 so shifting in the red area puts me at about 2800 or 3000 when i go into 3rd.. really makes a big diffrence when you get in the powerband.
