Which is better--Triton 5.4 vs Magnum 5.9
 

Ok there is this one guy i work with who thinks he knows everything and was trying to tell me his 99' F-150 4x4 would out-pull and perform my 98' Ram 1500 4x4. I told him that i would **** on his pos ford (just joking b/c i honestly dont mind fords or chevy's, they're just no dodge), and he proceeds to tell me that my motor only makes 220 horses, and bragged how is made 10 more horses. Then he said his makes more torque then mine! At that, i calmly got up out of my chair, strolled out into the parking lot, climbed into my truck and got the original window sticker, came back and slammed it down in front of him. It said right on there this 5.9 Rated at 245 hp, 345 (i think) Ft lbs torque. He was still smarting off to me but i said whatever b/c i could honestly care less at this point. I am speaking out of anger a little bit still here but i just wanna double check if anybody would agree with me that the 5.9 is a better motor than the 5.4 in his 99'. Damn some people get so defensive about their vehicles!!!!

I guess what i am asking is which is the better TRUCK TRUCK motor, the 5.9 or the 5.4??

Having worked on both I definently prefer the 5.9. No EGR bull sh** and they seem to get alot of EVAP codes. I think the 5.9 is probably a little underated when it comes to hp/tq numbers too. I don't have anything against fords or chevys either, but I know that the 5.4 is kind of a turd in my opinion. Unless of course it is the Lighting version, I'm afraid that ford out did us Dodge guys there.

Oh yes and i will mention that i did some research on this and the 5.9 had more HP and torque than the 5.4

well my buddy has a 5.4 an i have a 5.2 an i can out pull an out run his so i think i would say the 5.9

SRT-10 would OWN a Lightening.

Ford Lightening= 380hp 450 tq
SRT-10 = 500hp 525 tq!

Dodge owns, I'd take the snake 8.3L V-10 over that 5.4 ANY day!

i think its funny taht you asked that on a dodge site-- do you think anyone here (other than a troll here and there) would say they prefer the 5.4? haha. but im glad to hear that everyones sayin dodge cuz i almost got a 5.4 right before i bought my ram.

Well not everyone is biased.....I was more or less getting to which one overall is the better motor for a truck, as far as pulling and towin and what have you.....on paper the 5.9 is the better motor, i just wanted more input and opions......even if the 5.4 was better, which it isnt from what i have learned, i still wanted opinions....however i am glad to here the 5.9 is the better motor as well
