RE: Left rear door won't open
Are you sure that the door is unlocking? Just checking because I have had multiple locking mechanisms on vehicles go over the years where unlocking from the outside stopped working. Can you open the door from the inside ok?

RE: Left rear door won't open
Oh ok, its just a kick out door? Not a full door. Well Defintely going to have to take off the door panel for it and look underneathe the weather plastic. Sounds like that might be a little hard if you cant get the door open at all. If you can see the door latch you might be able to pop it open with a screw driver, I'm not sure what you can see with the door closed. Hopefully you can get the door panel off.

RE: Left rear door won't open
apparently the lower latches are known for freezing up....with the door closed. I just had to replace mine, but luckily mine wouldn't latch on the bottom, instead of wouldn't un-latch. It was like $70 new from the stealership, but at least I can latch the door now. |
RE: Left rear door won't open
if it helps at all, the lower brackets on mine are rusted to crap, but I wire brushed them when I got the truck, and spray them with lube. the brackets on the door frame.
try spraying some PB Blaster in there. but seriously, also check to see if the control cable snapped, or came off one of its connection points. those door panels are easy to pull off. just pull the screw in the non moving handle area. remove the screw that holds the moving handle in. and yank on it around the window. just be carefull not to break it near the front of the door where it is just a narrow strip. (check for extra screws first) |
RE: Left rear door won't open
My right door is stuck. Every few months I have to crawl in the back and kick the door open. Once open I re-adjust the hinges. Pain in the a**.

i would think you can pull it off at the front edge. mine has no clips right at the top, or bottom, they are a couple inches in....

Rear door frozen closed...
My driver's side rear door is also frozen closed ('99 Ram 1500 purchased new). The passenger side was acting up and the lower latch was rusted, but I lubed it up good before it seized. The rear door handle cover (and handle) comes off with two torx screws, and there is no cable used, but two rods, one connecting to the top latch and one to the bottom latch. I'm going to try sliding a slim jim in at the bottom of the door to try and move the frozen latch. I've sprayed all kinds of penetrating oil down there, with no results so far.

The handle in the door jam facing the front door is indeed a rod going up and one going down. The inside handle uses a cable, which is prone to breaking at the plastic retaining end of outer jacket.
Panel will come off with door closed, but it is not easy. The metal clips at the rear edge by the window will come off the panel. Remove panel, and reach inside at the front conrner of the door and spray some penetrant all over the latch mechanism at the bottom. Using the outer handle, keep working it and it should eventually break loose. Do not use the inside handle as it is likely to break while latch is stuck. |
have friend on out side of door pulling latch you on inside and kick the stubborn bastard open. i have to do mine just liked not having to move sub from behind me, its like a massage while driving. that should do the job to get door open.
