Default LSD in Dana 44

Hey all,

I am looking at upgrading my trucks drive train. I have the stock 3.55 right now and 32.8 tires. I am going to upgrade to 4.56 and 315/75R16 tires, but really want a traction system. I want the Detroit Truetrac for the rear (Chrysler 9.25) and wanted to put the same in the Dana 44 up front. What are the effects that this will have on drivability in 4x4 as compared to the stock setup?

A full time locker up front? Um....... you'll destroy your driveline in less than 10 minutes.....lol.

You need a selectable locker up front. Like an ARB air locker, or an Eaton Elocker.

Good luck.

The Truetrac is not a locker, rather a gear driven Limited Slip.

If it senses slip, it locks up doesn't it? I just wonder what effect that would have on dry pavement.

Good luck.

It would actually be just fine since our axles have the CAD unit. When in 2wd the wheels won't be fighting each other when turning. I know a guy running an Ausie on a D30 with 34's. That axle also is always connected, theres no CAD or hubs.

Making the tight turns on pavement in 4x4 will cause some bindage, but if you don't use it on pavement and be smart with it you'll be fine.

i put the powertrax lock-rights in the front and rear axles and i don't even notice the difference in the front axle until i'm in 4x4. the rear one is where i noticed a difference. when the road is wet and you go around a corner the inner tire doesn't have the traction like on dry pavement so the locker locks and the tire spins a little. it does the same thing if i hammer on it in a turn.

Is the powertrax a ratcheting locker?

Ahh gotcha then, a ratcheting locker even on a full time locked axle would be fine. They pretty much only lock up when tq is applied from the driveshaft.
