truck only starts in reverse then goes in reverse

truck only starts in reverse then goes in reverse
When i try to start truck in park it wont turn over but when i reverse it starts right up then wants to take off in reverse i just put a transmission in and when in d it will go foward i adjusted linkage 3x followed the service manual step by step i look in manual for troubleshooting found nothing close to problem searched the fourms and googled problem as well has anyone even heard of anything like this??
