gas mileage, how'd I do?

I just got back from Florida. I drove my Dodge from N.C. all the way down to Jacksonville. I filled up before I left. When I got there, the fuel light came on at 361 miles on the trip meter. I think I have the 25 or 27 gallon tank, not sure exactly. Average speeds were all highway, of course, 70-80 mph. Is 361 decent on a tank, when I am pretty sure I am still having plenum problems, (fixed it one time, with felpro gasket) considering the cel comes on from time to time, (cylinder misfire) and did on the way back?

Well I figure u got about 13.7 miles per gallon.w/ the 27 gallon tank/
That's better than what I get.

361 / 27 = 13.3
361 / 26 = 13.8
361 / 25 = 14.4
Did you fill up after the 361 mile trip ? if so how many gallons did it take to fill it ? that there will tell you your mpg... i think these trucks have a 26 gallon tanks i know mine does... 361 is not bad seen worse ..im getting 16 sometimes 18 of course i stay around the speed limit too....

when my fuel light comes on i still have a 1/8 th of a tank left atleast thats what the gauge say's.if thats the case then yourgetting better than 13, probably 17 or 18.

You either need a new gas gauge or something else is wrong lol.

That turning off the compressor helps I don't doubt, but other than that you can not and will not get much past 20 mpg with a V-8 in a truck... Most likely, you're within epa's estimated mileage of 13-17 mpg...
You might get 18-20 if you do turn off the compressor (just pull the electrical connector) AND you remove all extra weight so the truck is clean and unmodified (so no tool box, or tow package). Beyond that, you'd have to remove loads of extra weight such as the spare tire, the back seat, and a bunch of trim and fancy stuff, maybe the bumpers (which, somewhere here you're breaking the law lol).

I got 27mpg with a Thunderbird once, by far a much more aerodynamic vehicle, but then that happens to be epa's estimate as well so I merely got what I should have. While driving the speed limit helps, I actually kept mine at 62 mph, slightly below the posted speed.

Trucks such as the 1500-2500 get 13-17 mpg according to epa.
On my '86 D-250, keeping a light foot helped boost my mpg to ~14mpg in a rural setting, somewhat above the epa's estimated range of 12mpg city, but while argument can be had as to where I drove compared to an actual city, it is still certainly not double their estimated mileage.
Thou slower is better to a point, I can not advise driving speeds below 55-60 mph in a 65 mph zone and still it depends on traffic density and to some degree their speed as well.

You can't go off the needle or the gas light to get accurate millage. I get like 300 miles to a take according to the needle, but when I fill up I know there must be more in there.

What I did is fill my truck up before my drive to school, fill it all the way up. Then hit the road and like I said about 300 miles later I'm pretty low and the light is on. Pull into the next gas station and fill it up again, all the way. I only put usually like 18-20 gallons in and and can't squeeze any more in, I have the 26 gal tank. So by figuring I only used say 18 gallons of gas on 300 miles, my millage was 16.6. But if I do it by the needle and figure I used 26 gals like the size of the tank, I would be getting an inaccurate 11.5 mpg. Big diffrence, so try to never really go off the guage, go off how much you can fit in there :)
