As stated the difference is in the displacement of the engine. To put it simply the size. A 5.2L is 318 cu. in. and a 5.9L is 360 cu. in. (5.9/360 is bigger than 5.2/318).The 5.9 does have slightly higher horsepower and more torque. Bothof these enginesare older styles and basically they are similar. The engine in your vehicle is only part of the equation. As stated here rear axle gearing will make a significant difference. All other things being equala truck with 3.55 gears would not be as quick off the line as one with 4.10 or 3.92 gears. The truck with the 3.55 gears would be capable of a higher top end speed. Beside the rear axle gearing a manual transmission is geared differently than the stock automatic transmission. Again everything else being equal the manual is capable ofbeing quicker off the line. I say capable because there is also the human factor. Drivers do make a difference. A driver with a better reaction time can come off the line ahead. Also a driver that knows his vehicle and how it hooks up could come off quicker. By that I mean smoking the tires. It may be cool to smoke them but overdo it and you are simply slowing yourself off the line. With a manual transmission you also control shift points and again knowing your vehicle you can maximize the power of the vehicle by shifting at optimal times. Stock automatic transmissions are not usually set up for racing therefore their shift points are not set as such. There are many other factors that will have an affect. As you stated you have dual exhaust which could give a slight amount of additional horsepower. You may have other modifications to your smaller engine that raises its horsepower close to or even above a larger stock engine. Tire size will also affect the vehicle. Larger tires will be like lowering the rear axle gearing and will slow you off the line. But it is much more complicates than that. It is about finding a balance between the engine (power) and the gearing. Believe it or not road conditions can also effect performance especially when talking about tires. Weight then also enters into the equation and that becomes an entirely different subject. Didn't mean to make such a long post but if you are serious then you need to understand what really effects performance.

im gonna break down the gear thing for you
in a 4.10 rear end gear ratio for every 4.1 turns of the driveshaft the rear wheel makes one revolution, which means that the engine is spinning faster to make the rear tire go vs a 3.55 where the engine doesnt have to turn as much to make the wheel go. as you can see if you raced someone to 60 you would blow them out of the water because you would get there easier since your engine works less hard to spin the tire. simple physics is all..
BUT!! if ur racing someone to top speed you would max out sooner and they would pull a little more speed say you would max out at 120 w/ 4.10 and a 3.55 would max out at 135-140?? im not saying those are the real numbers but to tell you the truth i would trade my 3.55's for 4.10's any day

Nevdodge, you said you wanted some more get up and go out of your 5.2? Look into a Cold Air Intake, most offer about the same gains so it's just a matter of preference. The K&N F.I.P.K. is a proven intake on second gens. Also, I have a few friends with edelbrock shorty headers and they are very pleased with them. Some rockers would be good too then your truck will move a tad bit more haha.

Going with the 14"round air filter seems to be the new thing on here above the air intake.You already have the exhaust setup, those 2 things mentioned above would really compliment the truck.
Gas mileage may suffer because of the new found power.
