That sounds like a spun bearing ... get a mechanic's stethoscope and isolate the noise ... bet it's about halfway back on the block.

I may be tearing this engine down shortly to track this problem down. When I find out what it is, I will post.

We finally tore the engine down last night. Nearly all the rod bearings were severely worn right down to the brass. This engine only has 67,000 miles on it! I was using the Mobile 1 Synthetic oil. None had spun though. I will need to get the crank turned, and I am just going to go thru the entire engine also. I will be putting new heads (EQ heads with 2.02 valves) new cam and lifters (KRC 210x) and also the SCT tune from Hemifever. I am planning on cutting the runners on the intake to compliment the cam and heads.

Thanks, I am getting excited about it! It will take about a month to get everything back together, but as soon as I do I will try to post a video.

Did this ever get figured out. I have noticed this same thing for the last year on my truck. Cruising the hwyway and at about 2500 rpms ticking, 200 rpms higher or lower nothing. Would like to know if this is just normal for some trucks. I don't think I can go thru everything the OP did. Did the overhaul stop it..?

Still rebuilding!! The machine shop is very slow!!

This will take care of it though. Nearly all the bearings were down to the copper (connecting rod bearings). None had spun though, but I was very close.
