I have a chance to buy a body lift for my 96 ram from someone but they are telling me its for 97-01. What is the differences? Why wont it fit on my 96. The kit is made by rough country

There will be a difference in transmission too, whether manual or automatic. I can't remember what year sport came out, but that is another big difference.

Best advice go to the manufacturer's website and find the instructions for both years. Make sure you know the part number kit for theirs. Compare and contrast.

The body mounts are all the same throughout the years, the bumper and trans/t-case crossmember mounts might be different.

Also make sure it comes with the gas filler neck extension!
