You are a damned desert! Now act like one! |
has anyone ever stripped a torque converter off a 2008 4.7 dakota? lol ... happened to me.
|
anyone know of any grill guards for another truck that might fit the dakota with minimum fabricating? I want to pull of my front bumper and mount a tubular grill guard. I am looking for something similar to what you see on the front of a jeep wrangler with the double stacked tubes
something similar to this but in black http://www.truckcandy.com/TC/AriesJe...glerBumper.htm |

i mean stripped the splines off er .. no threads ... just a buzzing sound when you start it .. i had park and that was it ... the first time this happened they were puzzled that i had stripped the torque converter and nothin wrong with the tranny.. the tech said that he didn't even have to open the tranny .. just a little after a year i did a power take off and pumped the gas when it was shifting and she did the exact same thing again ... fawk... they asked me what the hell i was hauling .. i was just hauling me and nothing else .. i am around 200 pounds ... and no trailer each time this had happened .. i do not reccommend anyone to try this .. when you floor it .. just leave it on the floor .. do'nt get creative .. because this happened to me 2 times and after the TQ and towing and labour .. $800.00 bones ... yuppers ... not a good feeling .. i have since let up a little on the foot .. i just thought she could take it .. and now i am wondering if this has happened to anyone else.. let me know .. or if anything else like it .. 2008, 4.7 dakota slt .. lots of go ..

Bad news... I will be removing my stacks Tuesday.... It creates to much vibration/churn (what ever that noise is called) inside the cab, I honestly don't mind it, but I don't want it for my newborn son, coming by the end of the week!!! I'm so excited!! I'll post a pic of my new exhaust. Just finished painting my old tip.

This was definitely a head-scratcher trying to install but after 2 hours I finally installed my Westin Bull bar. Those 2 big vertically installed bolts took a while for me to figure out how to remove them. After googling, I found out that I needed to clamp down the top bushing in order for the bolt to come out. I went a good hour and fifteen minutes with breaks in between each try, trying to remove the first bolt. Holding that 1/2 breaker bar was not easy. Anyways, glad I got it after contemplating whether or not to buy it.

If you know what to do off-the-bat, then its not so hard. If I knew what I had to do going into it, it probably would have only taken me 30-45 minutes to install. Basically at the of each vertical bolt is a bushing like paid w/ a metal plate covering it. You have to clamp down (as tight as you can) that metal plate. My tip when clamping down the metal plate is to just clamp it down on the side, not the very middle. At first, I tried calling down the very middle and I wasn't going anywhere then I just clamped down a side of the circle plate and I was able to break-free and remove the bolts.
|
Looks good, obviously I'm a fan of the Bull Bar.
This thread shows a great clamp which helps out a lot. Post # 16 shows the clamp in action. |
Dakotaff, thanks and that is indeed the thread that got me over the hump. I didn't have any clamps like that, but I had much better luck fitting my gigantic hands in there from under the truck. BTW, your truck in your sig looks great. What size tires are those and do you have lift? Thanks.
|
Also, what side steps or nerf bars are you running, Dakotaff? Yeah, i'm definitely feeling that picture in your sig.

Tires are 265/70/17, with a Trailmaster 1.5" leveling kit. |
