D-Rings on Utility Rails

6 Attachment(s)
So, I needed a better tie-down system for a bed net when hauling camping gear or other loose items. So, after looking at other ideas online, I combined a couple of ideas. The best one is to install some D-rings on the upper channel of the utility rail.

Parts:
  • DC Cargo Mall 2" Diameter Black Steel V-Ring Bolt-on Trailer Cargo Tie-Down Ancho with Bolting Hole (pack of 10)
  • 3/8" -16 x 1" carriage bolts (10) (Note: 3/4" long would be better)
  • 3/8" flat washers (10)
  • 3/8" -16 lock nuts (10)
If I were to do these again, I'd skip buying the carriage bolts at Lowes or Home Depot and go online to a fastener vender (Fastenal, McMaster, etc) and get some that are 3/4" long instead. That would leave a better clearance for a tonneau cover.

The cargo strap at the front and back give an anchor line for the snap links (3/8" steel). I saw the idea on YouTube where someone used a chain and a come-along, which would be better. But, I have these and don't have the space for storing chain gear. The snap links are better than the plastic hooks that come with these elastic nets. The hooks twist and don't inspire much confidence.
